How to Make Your Deglaze Profile Private
Deglaze now has Instagram-style private profiles. Flip one switch and only followers you approve can see your posts and who you follow — while your profile stays findable and any recipe you share stays open. Here's exactly where the switch lives and what changes when you turn it on.
Open Edit profile
In the app, tap your profile picture in the bottom-right corner to open your profile, then tap Edit. On the Deglaze web app, open your profile and choose Edit profile the same way.
Turn on the Private account switch
Scroll to the bottom of Edit profile and turn on Private account. The switch's own description says it plainly: when private, only followers you approve can see your posts and who you follow.
The change takes effect immediately — there's no confirmation step on the way in.
Review your existing followers
Everyone who already follows you stays a follower — going private never kicks anyone out. A “You're now private” sheet confirms the change and offers to look over your list.
Tap Review followers to go through it — every row has a Remove button. Removal is silent: they're never notified, your posts quietly leave their feed, and they can request to follow again later. Or tap Not now — you can review your followers from your profile any time.
Non-followers now see a locked profile
From that moment, anyone who doesn't follow you sees a lock icon and a “This account is private” notice in place of your posts. Your photo, bio, links, and counts stay visible, and people can still find you by name or username.
Your posts also leave Deglaze's public and explore feeds, and a direct link to one of your posts redirects non-followers to your locked profile instead.
To see your posts, visitors tap Request — the Follow button on a private profile becomes a follow request.
Approve (or decline) follow requests
New requests reach you in three places: right on the push notification — approve or decline without opening the app — in a Follow requests card that appears on your profile while requests are pending, and in the full requests list with per-person Approve and Decline buttons.
Approving someone makes them a follower and fills their feed with your recent posts. Declining is silent — they're never notified.
Switch back anytime
Changed your mind? Turn the Private account switch off and confirm Go public. Anyone will be able to see your posts and who you follow again, and any pending follow requests are approved automatically.
Switching is low-stakes in both directions, so you can try a private profile without ceremony.
What going private hides — and what it doesn't
Making your profile private covers your social presence: your posts and the list of people you follow. Only followers you approve can see those.
Your profile itself stays findable. Search by name or username still works, and visitors still see your photo, bio, links, and counts — they just can't see past the lock until you approve them.
Recipes are the deliberate exception. A recipe link you send someone still opens for anyone. Sharing a recipe is your intentional act, and going private doesn't change that.
And your private cooking history was never public to begin with — the cooks you never posted are visible only to you, whether your profile is public or private.

Can I hide individual posts instead of my whole profile?
Not yet. Privacy is a single switch for your whole profile for now — there's no per-post visibility, blocking, or muting. If you want a single cook to stay off your public profile, just don't post it: cooking sessions you mark as cooked but never share are always visible only to you, in your private cooking history.
Is a private profile a paid feature?
No. Private profiles are available to every Deglaze user, free plan included, on iPhone, iPad, Android, and the web. Make sure you and your friends are on app version 9.0.0 or later to send and receive follow requests.
