How-To Guide
How to Add Groceries with Siri in Deglaze
Say “Hey Siri, add milk and eggs to my grocery list in Deglaze,” and they're on your list. Here's what to say, what to avoid, and how to troubleshoot.
Ask Siri, then say Yes the first time
Say “Hey Siri, add milk and eggs to my grocery list in Deglaze.” Swap in whatever you need, name every item before “to my grocery list,” and end with “in Deglaze” so Siri knows the request is for Deglaze and not for Reminders.
The first time, Siri asks “I'll need to access your Deglaze data to use the app. Is that OK?” Say or tap Yes. You only answer once, and there's nothing else to set up.
Rather type? Type to Siri takes the same sentence.
See what Siri added
On iOS 27, Siri shows a card from Deglaze listing what it added.
Deglaze turns what you said into separate items the way you mean them, so “mac and cheese” stays one item and “salt and pepper” becomes two.
Find them on your grocery list
Open the Groceries tab in Deglaze. Items you add with Siri land on the same grocery list as everything you type.
If you're in a household, that's your shared list, so everyone in it sees the new items too.
What to say to Siri
Every request follows one pattern: Add [your items] to my grocery list in Deglaze. The items come first, then the list, then “in Deglaze” last.
“Shopping list” works as well as “grocery list.” Name everything you need in one request: “Add mac and cheese and bananas to my grocery list in Deglaze” adds two items. Here's what lands on your list for a few things you might say:
| Say | Your list gets |
|---|---|
| “Add milk and eggs to my grocery list in Deglaze” | Your list gets: Milk, Eggs |
| “Add milk to my shopping list in Deglaze” | Your list gets: Milk |
| “Add mac and cheese, half and half and salt and pepper to my grocery list in Deglaze” | Your list gets: Mac & cheese, Half-and-half, Salt, Pepper |
| “Add bread and butter to my grocery list in Deglaze” | Your list gets: Bread, Butter |
| “Add bread and butter pickles to my grocery list in Deglaze” | Your list gets: Bread and butter pickles |
| “Add two pounds of chicken thighs to my grocery list in Deglaze” | Your list gets: 2 lb chicken thighs |
Deglaze also fixes common mishearings: if Siri hears “time,” “muscles” or “serial,” your list gets Thyme, Mussels and Cereal. Filler words are dropped, and an item you repeat in one request is added once.
Ask for something vague, like “Add the usual to my grocery list in Deglaze,” and Siri asks what you'd like to add.
Phrases to avoid, and what to say instead
Siri picks the app for a request before Deglaze hears a word of it, and it's particular about phrasing. iOS 26 is more forgiving than iOS 27, but the sentence above works on both. Move “Deglaze” anywhere else and Siri may guess the app, and it often picks Reminders.
| If you say | What happens | Say instead |
|---|---|---|
| “Add milk to my grocery list” | What happens: Siri adds it to Reminders. | Say instead: “Add milk to my grocery list in Deglaze” |
| “Add milk to Deglaze” or “Add milk in Deglaze” | What happens: Siri may use Reminders instead, unless you just used Deglaze. | Say instead: “Add milk to my grocery list in Deglaze” |
| “Add milk to my Deglaze grocery list” | What happens: Siri may use Reminders instead. | Say instead: “Add milk to my grocery list in Deglaze” |
| “Add milk to the Deglaze app” | What happens: Siri may not reach Deglaze at all. | Say instead: “Add milk to my grocery list in Deglaze” |
| “In Deglaze, add butter and flour” | What happens: It can turn into a web search, or only part of it arrives. | Say instead: “Add butter and flour to my grocery list in Deglaze” |
| “Add pickles to my grocery list in Deglaze and mustard” | What happens: Siri may answer “I don't see an app for that.” | Say instead: “Add pickles and mustard to my grocery list in Deglaze” |
| “Add to my grocery list in Deglaze,” with no items | What happens: Siri may use Reminders instead, especially the first time. | Say instead: Name the items in the same sentence. |
| “Remind me to buy coffee filters tomorrow morning in Deglaze” | What happens: Siri may make a reminder instead. | Say instead: “Add coffee filters to my grocery list in Deglaze” |
| “Add eggs when I get to the store to my grocery list in Deglaze” | What happens: Siri asks to use Location Services. | Say instead: “Add eggs to my grocery list in Deglaze” |
| “…in Deglaze, actually make that two dozen eggs” | What happens: Siri may use Reminders, or drop the correction. | Say instead: Fix the item on your list afterward. |
| “Add tofu to my grocery list and miso to my Costco list in Deglaze” | What happens: Only part of it may arrive. | Say instead: “Add tofu and miso to my grocery list in Deglaze” |
Tips for long lists and quantities
Say fewer than 10 items at a time. Siri can cut a long list short before Deglaze hears it, especially on iOS 26, and on iOS 27 a long list sometimes goes to Reminders. For a big shop, split it into a few requests and check your list afterward.
Check amounts on iOS 26. Siri on iOS 26 drops some words before Deglaze hears them. “A dozen eggs” arrives as just Eggs, though “half a dozen eggs” comes through, and “a pound and a half of chicken thighs” loses its amount. On iOS 27, “a dozen eggs” comes through, and Deglaze puts “a pound and a half” back together as 1.5 lb chicken thighs.
Expect the odd shortened name. Siri sometimes trims what you say: on iOS 27, “Coke Zero” can arrive as just Coke. If an item looks off, edit it on your list.
Fix mistakes in the app. Don't correct yourself mid-sentence. On iOS 26, Siri drops the correcting words, so “apples, I mean pears” adds both Apples and Pears, and on iOS 27 a correction at the end of the request sends it to Reminders. It's quicker to fix the item on your list afterward.
Troubleshooting
If your items don't end up where you expect, find what happened below.
| What happened | Why | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Siri added it to Reminders | Why: “In Deglaze” was missing, or the phrasing made Siri guess the app. | What to do: Say “…to my grocery list in Deglaze,” with “in Deglaze” last. |
| Siri says “I don't see an app for that.” | Why: An item came after “in Deglaze.” | What to do: Name every item first, then say “to my grocery list in Deglaze.” |
| Siri says “Sorry, you'll need to continue in the app.” | Why: The add didn't go through, or Siri heard nothing to add. | What to do: Open Deglaze, check that you're signed in and online, look at your list, then try again. |
| Siri offers to open Deglaze | Why: You're signed out of Deglaze. | What to do: Open Deglaze and sign in, then ask again. |
| Siri asks “What do you want to be reminded about?” | Why: Siri reached Deglaze but didn't hear any items. The wording is Siri's own. | What to do: Say the items you want to add. |
| Siri asks to use Location Services | Why: The request included “when I get to the store.” | What to do: Leave that part out. |
| Some items are missing | Why: Siri cut a long list short or dropped words, mostly on iOS 26. | What to do: Add fewer items at a time, and check your list. |
| Siri said it added them, but they're not on your list | Why: Your list is filtered by store with Shop by Store, and new items from Siri don't have a store yet. | What to do: Clear the store filter, or include (No store) in it. |
| An item is on your list twice | Why: It was already there. Siri adds it again, just as typing it would. | What to do: Remove the extra one. |
| You said No when Siri asked to access your Deglaze data | Why: Siri needs your permission to use Deglaze. | What to do: In the Settings app, go to Apps → Deglaze → Siri and turn on Use with Siri Requests. |
Frequently asked questions
Is adding groceries with Siri free?
Yes. It's free for everyone, on the free plan and on Deglaze Pro. You need the latest version of Deglaze on your iPhone, and you need to be signed in.
Which iPhones does it work on?
It works with the standard Siri on iPhones running iOS 26 or iOS 27, with the latest version of Deglaze.
Why did Siri add my items to Reminders?
Siri picks the app before Deglaze hears anything. Without “in Deglaze” at the end, or with “Deglaze” somewhere else in the sentence, Siri guesses the app, and it often picks Reminders. Say “…to my grocery list in Deglaze,” with “in Deglaze” last.
Do I need to set anything up?
No. The first time you ask, Siri checks that it's OK to access your Deglaze data. Say Yes, and you're done. If you want the sentence again, Deglaze shows it at the top of your grocery list until you close the tip or add something with Siri, and on its Siri screen: tap Profile, then the gear icon at the top right, then Siri.
Can I type instead of talking?
Yes. Type the same sentence with Type to Siri: “Add milk and eggs to my grocery list in Deglaze.”
Does my household see items I add with Siri?
Yes. Siri adds to your grocery list, and if you're in a household, that's the list you share, so everyone sees the new items.
Can Siri check items off, remove them, or read my list back?
Not yet. For now, Siri adds items to your grocery list. Check off, remove, and review items in the Deglaze app.
Can I add items to a particular store?
Not by voice yet. Siri adds to your one grocery list. An item you've tagged with a store before keeps that store, and new items have none, so tag them on your list afterward with Shop by Store, part of Deglaze Pro.
What if an item is already on my list?
Siri adds it again, just as typing it would, so you may see it twice. Remove the extra one. Repeating an item within one request, like “milk and milk,” adds it only once.
Does it work in other languages?
For now, use Siri in English. The sentence Deglaze teaches is in English, and other Siri languages may not work.
Does it work on Apple Watch, Android, or the web?
No. Adding groceries with Siri works on iPhone. On Android and the Deglaze web app, add items to your grocery list in the app as usual.
Is there a Shortcuts action too?
Yes. In the Shortcuts app, Deglaze has an Add to Grocery List action. It asks “What do you want to add?” and adds your answer the same way Siri does. It needs iOS 17 or later, and like adding with Siri, it's free for everyone.
